Juan Carlos Triviño Salazar
Principal Investigator

Juan Carlos Triviño is Assistant Professor in Public Policy at the Department of Political and Social Sciences in the Universitat Pompeu Fabra-Barcelona. He is also a Juan de la Cierva research fellow at the same university (formerly at the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals – IBEI). His field of expertise is primarily focused on governance processes from a multilevel and regulatory perspectives in multiple policy sectors but with a special focus on immigration and integration.

More substantively, he studies the urban governance of immigration and integration and the regulatory governance of policy sectors such as immigration, food safety, health, and finance.

He has published on matters related to his lines of interest in top-ranking journals such as Public Administration, Comparative European Politics, Journal of European Integration, the Lancet, American Behavioral Scientist, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, among others.

Since September 2022, he is the principal investigator of the project MUNMIGRA on local policy responses to presence of precarious migrants in Spanish cities. This project is funded through the Spanish Ministry of Science.

Juliana Fornasier
PhD Researcher

Juliana Fornasier is a PhD candidate at the Department of Political and Social Sciences at Universitat Pompeu Fabra-Barcelona, where she has also finished her Master in Migration Studies. Her research focuses on policy learning in the field of migration across European cities.

​Her professional background is complemented by experience working for European projects (she is currently working for the VISA RoC (Victims with Irregular Migrant Status' Safe Reporting of Crimes) and UNITES (Urban Integration Strategies Through Co-Design), and international organisations, namely ICMPD (International Centre for Migration Policy Development) and IOM's GMDAC (Global Migration Data Analysis Centre).

​Since September 2023, Juliana is researcher in the project MUNMIGRA on local policy responses to presence of precarious migrants in Spanish cities. This project is funded through the Spanish Ministry of Science. ​

​Gülce Şafak Özdemir
Associate researcher

Dr. Gülce Şafak ÖZDEMİR has researched and published, amongst others, on theoretical, and empirical discussions regarding the governance of irregular migration and the experiences of irregular migrants at the city level.

She is currently a researcher at the MIGRADEMO project at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Previously, she has worked as a predoctoral researcher and independent consultant at various international organizations.

​Dr. Özdemir contributes as an affiliated researcher to the Urban Sanctuary, Migrant Solidarity, and Hospitality in Global Perspective Project situated at Toronto Metropolitan University and the Diversity and Politics research group at the Barcelona Institute of International Studies (IBEI). Before her current role as the elected co-chair of the Immigration Research Network within the Council for European Studies (CES) at Columbia University, she played a pivotal part as an elected board member of the IMISCOE (International Migration Research Network) PhD network.

Ixchel Pérez-Durán

Ixchel Pérez-Durán is Associate Professor of Public Administration and Policy at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Her research interests include governance, regulation, accountability, transparency, trust, and EU institutions.

​Her research has been published in the Journal of European Public Policy, Regulation & Governance, West European Politics, JCMS: Journal of Common Market Studies, the European Political Science Review, the Journal of European Integration, Comparative European Journal, Bulletin of Latin American Research, and the International Review of Administrative Sciences, among others.

Gonzalo Joaquín Rodriguez Bernal
​External collaborator

Gonzalo Joaquín is a graduate student in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the 4Universities Alliance (UAB, UAM, UC3M and UPF), and current student of the Metròpoli Master's Degree at the Institut Metròpoli and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. His research interests are urbanism, democracy and the introduction of intersectional policies to achieve better social equality. All this using different disciplines to achieve a greater perspective when facing problems that surround current urban centers.
 
He has participated in events of associations such as the AeFPE and organized talks such as “Cinematic Hegemony in Crisis” within the Ateneu Barcelona.
